A Blessing and a Blur

This morning, February 8, at the end of worship at First Congregational Church of Berkeley, the travelers were blessed and sent on their way to the Holy Land. The photo that Sam Keen took for me is a very colorful blur. In many ways, a blurred photograph is entirely appropriate. For most of us, the last two or three weeks have been extremely busy: a mixture of uncertainty, anxiety and excitement; the rush to get projects finished; and now the final throes of packing, reassuring friends and relatives, and preparing ourselves in all the ways you can imagine to be away for two weeks in a remarkable and complicated place. We will try to keep you updated on our adventures. Please send us your comments and your prayers and hold us safe in your hearts until we return February 23.

  1. John and I are following you along your journey via your daily journal entries- we are indeed with you vicariously in your travels and eager to hear more details when you get back. In the meantime you are in our prayers. Wish it were possible for you to be in two places on last Sunday! The church service was very beautiful from start to finish. The Creadion story in Genesis was read by four people situated in the four corners of the sanctuary and the wonderful words heard anew (in a new way and even more richly). Ted Peters gave a wonderful evolution Sunday sermon and his seond hour was equally fascinating. We missed you! Keep the comments coming - we are appreciating them all.

P.S. For Susie -- we met Trouble yesterday - she didn't live up to her name and was very sweet while her master went off to his office since the golf game was washed out. Trouble exhausted her hostess playing keep away with her ball for as long as I lasted!
